Laser Welding for Industrial Applications - General Overview and Examples of Welding Cases of difficult-to-weld, dissimilar, and lightweight metals. Laser welding has gained a notable acceleration worldwide in recent years due to its numerous advantages in terms of precision, quality, welding speed, and more. However, the transition to laser welding is not straightforward due to the high costs and expertise required for its implementation. The Israeli Institute of Materials Manufacturing Technologies at the Technion aims to support the Israeli industry in transitioning to advanced welding methods. As part of this effort, an advanced laser processing lab was established to assist manufacturing companies from various sectors in the stages of process development and feasibility testing for various applications. In this webinar, we will present examples of laser welding for several common applications in the Israeli industry, methods for transitioning to laser welding, and the available capabilities for the Israeli market at the Israeli Institute of Materials Manufacturing Technologies at the Technion.

Biography Dr. Aleksey Kovalevsky
Dr. Aleksey Kovalevsky - studied welding, related processes, and technologies at Priazovsky State Technical University (Mariupol), where he obtained his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees. Aleksey arrived in Israel in 2015 and has been working at the IMT (former Israel Metal Institute) in the foundry laboratory since 2016. In 2022 he started his position as the head of the welding and laser technologies group.
As part of his work at the IMT Aleksey received international training as a Certified International Welding Engineer (IWE).
