E. Fortunato: one of the inspiring women of the EU
24 March, 2022
On 8 March 2022, to celebrate International Women’s Day, in the context of France’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union that began on 1 January, the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Mr Jean-Yves Le Drian, the Minister Delegate for Gender Equality, Diversity and Equal Opportunities, Ms Élisabeth Moreno, and the Minister of State for European Affairs, Mr Clément Beaune, presented the portraits of 27 inspiring women, each representing an EU Member State, during an event at the Quai d’Orsay.
The Ministers highlighted the exceptional stories of 27 women from civil society, including artists, sportswomen, activists, business leaders, scientists, police officers and university presidents. Through their engagement and messages, they all embody a feminist Europe that defends and promotes women’s rights across the continent.
It is for us a great pleasure to announce that Elvira Fortunato, Vice-Rector of NOVA, former Member of E-MRS Scientific Council, Laureate of the E-MRS Jan Czochralski Award in 2017 and organizers of several symposia both at E-MRS Spring and Fall conferences was appointed by the French presidency of the EU as one of the inspiring women of the European Union highlighted in the series "27 femmes", representing Portugal.
"Above all, never give up on your dreams, and always think that it is possible", is the message of hope that Elvira Fortunato addresses to women, in the initiative that marks the International Womens Day in the scope of the Présidence française du Conseil de l’Union européenne.
The portraits were produced in collaboration with journalist Caroline Delage and will be published on 8 March 2022 by the Ouest France newspaper, online and in print. The production of these portraits was also supported by the European Commission.
