Expansion of E-MRS

Each year, E-MRS organizes, co-organizes, sponsors or co-sponsors numerous scientific events and meetings. At the heart of the meetings portfolio are the E-MRS Spring and Fall Meetings. The major society conference, the E-MRS Spring Meeting, is organized every year in May or June and offers on average 25 topical symposia. It is widely recognized as being of the highest international significance and is the greatest of its kind in Europe with about 2,500 attendees every year. Based on the same model, the E-MRS Fall Meeting, is organized every year in September and consists of 20 topical symposia. Both conferences are augmented by an exhibition of products and services of interest to the participants.

The Spring meeting

Attendance for the annual Spring Meeting has fluctuated over the years, but has exhibited a general upward trend. The meetings have grown from a single symposium with about 150 participants in 1983 to a record attendance at the Spring Meeting in 2011 with more than 3,000 attendees representing 62 countries and 26 offered symposia. The 2019 Spring Meeting (face-to-face format) attracted 2.720 participants coming from 66 different countries.

From year to year, the Fall meeting becomes increasingly multinational with a growing number of symposia and participants from all over the world. The 2019 Fall Meeting attracted 1.180 participants coming from 55 different countries.

The international dimension

While E-MRS Spring and Fall Meetings are at the core of the meetings portfolio, the Society continues to enhance its service to the global materials community by endorsing and co-sponsoring standalone technical workshops and conferences. More information about our endorsement program available HERE.
