P2D materials for magnetism and spintronics: from fundamentals to integrated technology
Spintronics introduces novel circuits concepts that can, thanks to extraordinary performances, project us in the Beyond CMOS world. The symposium will cover growth, theoretical models and applications of 2D materials for magnetism and spintronics.
Scope:
Spintronic devices functionalities are intrinsically linked to the manipulation of the electron's spin degree of freedom, which is controlled or induced across interfaces. Hence, interfaces between materials with distinct chemical, structural, magnetic, and transport properties are critical to the advancement of spintronics, especially in the realm of 2D materials. The symposium will explore cutting-edge developments in 2D materials, including topological insulators, 2D ferromagnets, 2D semiconductors, MXenes, 2D superconductors and ferroics, and other emerging van der Waals heterostructures, emphasizing their integration into spintronic applications.
As circuits continue to shrink to the nanoscale, the interface itself becomes central to device functionality: harnessing 2D materials behaviors could thus become an increasingly critical asset to device tailoring towards higher performance and energy efficient electronics. It is therefore essential to achieve precise control over their synthesis and assembly, while gaining a deep understanding of their fundamental physical properties. Contributions that focus on the role of 2D material interfaces in driving device functionalities are highly encouraged, as well as studies that utilize advanced characterization techniques such as magneto-transport, spin-orbit torque, terahertz spectroscopy, ferromagnetic resonance, Raman spectroscopy, synchrotron-based methods, and scanning tunneling microscopy to elucidate the properties of these materials and devices.
This symposium will serve as a collaborative platform to bridge various disciplines, bringing together researchers with complementary expertise to address critical challenges in spintronics. This includes a wide range of aspects: 2D materials growth, spectroscopic characterizations, integration and devices fabrication, transport analysis, and ab-initio approaches. The discussions and shared knowledge will help shape the next generation of 2D spintronic devices, paving the way for future technological breakthroughs.
