Chiral materials at all scales

Chirality is a fundamental property of symmetry at all scales, from light-matter interaction to materials and up to macroscopic objects. Chiral materials are becoming of ground-breaking importance and enable cutting-edge technologies including spintronics, quantum information, catalysis and opto-electronics.

Scope:

Chirality is a fundamental property of symmetry at all scales: from light to materials and up to macroscopic objects. The scope of the symposium will be to gather experts in the interdisciplinary and broad fields of chiral light-matter interaction, chiral materials and their application in cutting-edge technologies and advanced devices. The symposium will offer a unique forum of discussion in the field of organic, inorganic, and hybrid materials at all scales: from molecular (0D) to 3D materials for circularly polarized luminescence (CPL), magnetic circularly polarized luminescence (MCPL), magneto-chiral dichroism (MChD), electrical magneto-chiral anisotropy (eMChA); chiral self-assembled materials and chiral 2D materials; materials for chiral-induced spin selectivity (CISS) effect. Of particular focus will be also the ground-breaking applicative aspects of these materials as active components in advanced technologies, such as chiral optoelectronic and sensing devices (e.g., Circularly Polarized Organic Light-Emitting Diodes and chiral Organic Field Effect Transistors), as spin filters as well as chiral (photo)catalytic systems operating under spin control. The symposium will also aim at showcasing state-of-the-art spectroscopical techniques involving chiral light-matter interactions (e.g., time-resolved circular dichroism techniques, Müller matrix polarimetry), investigation of time-resolved chiroptical properties of materials, and advanced theoretical and computational methods that will help to unravel the complex phenomena related to chirality and chiral materials.

The symposium will represent a great opportunity for established as well as young researchers of the broad community of chiral materials to discuss the most recent advances and present the latest breakthroughs in the field.

Hot topics to be covered by the symposium:

  • Circularly polarized luminescence (CPL)
  • Chiral light-matter interaction
  • Magnetic Circularly polarized luminescence (MCPL)
