NBio-based high-performance textile coatings
Bio-based high-performance textile coatings combine renewable, eco-friendly materials with advanced chemical and nanostructured technologies to impart functional properties such as water repellency, antimicrobial activity, flame retardancy, and durability—while promoting sustainability and circular economy principles.
Scope:
The symposium aims to explore the latest advances in bio-based high-performance textile coatings, highlighting innovative strategies to combine functionality, sustainability, and industrial applicability. Traditional textile coatings often rely on synthetic polymers and chemicals that can have adverse environmental and health impacts. This symposium provides a platform to discuss renewable and bio-derived alternatives, such as polysaccharides, proteins, natural waxes, and other plant- or microbial-based polymers, and their role in achieving multifunctional properties in textiles.
Topics include water and oil repellency, antimicrobial activity, UV protection, flame retardancy, and enhanced mechanical durability, focusing on approaches that preserve comfort and breathability. The symposium will also address nano- and micro-structuring techniques, chemical functionalization methods, and environmentally compatible coating processes that enable scalable and energy-efficient applications. Special emphasis will be given to the life cycle and circularity of textile coatings, exploring biodegradable, recyclable, and eco-friendly solutions aligned with global sustainability goals.
By bringing together material scientists, chemists, textile engineers, and industry stakeholders, the symposium encourages interdisciplinary discussions on challenges and opportunities in developing textiles that are both high-performing and sustainable. Participants will exchange knowledge on emerging materials, cutting-edge surface engineering techniques, and eco-toxicological assessments, fostering collaboration between academia and industry.
Overall, the symposium seeks to showcase research innovations, stimulate dialogue, and promote collaborations that advance the field of bio-based textile coatings, supporting a future where high-performance textiles are environmentally responsible, multifunctional, and economically viable.
