Quantum Nanomaterials - NFFA Europe Pilot Symposium

IMPORTANT: the NFFA symposium will run from Monday September 18, around 13:00 through Tuesday September 19, 2023, around 13:00.

Collective quantum phenomena in nano-materials arise from the interplay between quantum mechanics and interactions in many-particle systems — i.e., cooperative behaviors that cannot be predicted from the properties of individual electrons. In many systems and materials new phenomena are observed, whose description requires new models and experimental approaches to be developed. The long-term objective of this exciting new research direction is to design, synthetize and control (nano)materials and their hetero-interfaces with properties ‘on-demand’, hosting the desired functional properties, and thereby reaching in quantum nano-materials the richness and complexity already found in bulk and thin-film oxides and semiconductors.

The scope of the symposium is to convey to scientists with diverse knowledge the current status of research at the nanoscale, with the aim of i) highlighting the relevant quantum-driven aspects in nanoscience and nanotechnology, ii) exploring innovative aspects and possible future implications, iii) illustrating nanotechnology's transformative possibilities in a variety of fields, iv) promoting collaboration between groups working on novel quantum materials and related phenomena.

The program will consist of an assortment of invited and contributed oral presentations and posters, at the frontier of the field, as well as broad coverage of the field’s diverse evolution. The symposium is organized by the European Project NFFA-Europe-Pilot (nffa.eu), which involves 23 partners and aims at increasing European competitiveness in nanosciences and nanotechnologies.
