Frontiers in Carbon science and technology

The frontiers in carbon materials (e.g., diamond, carbon nanotubes, carbon dots, graphene, graphyne) and related 2D materials will be focused, ranging from their synthesis, properties to their applications in the fields of chemical sensing, biomedicine, energy, catalyst, and environment.

Scope:

Different carbon materials (e.g., diamond, carbon nanotubes, graphene, carbon dots, graphyne) have been extensively investigated for years with respect to their synthesis, properties, and applications. This symposium focuses on the frontiers in science and technology of advanced carbon materials, including chemical synthesis and properties of diamond, carbon/graphene dots, graphene, graphyne, and carbon related two-dimensional (2D) materials. Novel approaches to synthesize the composites of advanced carbon and 2D materials, developed techniques for the characterization of 2D nanomaterials and their nanocomposites (e.g., machine learning, Operando techniques), and more importantly discussion of their chemistry will be covered in this symposium. Of particular focus will be the applications of these advanced carbon and 2D materials in the fields of chemical/biochemical sensing, biomedicine, gas separation, catalysts, energy, and environment. Photochemical, electrochemical, and photoelectrochemical water splitting, CO2 reduction, nitrogen fixation using these advanced materials will be highlighted together with their electrochemical energy storage (e.g., supercapacitors, batteries) and conversion (e.g., fuel cells, solar cells) applications. Organic synthesis and environmental degradation using conductive diamond and 2D materials, biomedicine using nanodiamond, carbon dots and 2D nanomaterials, gas purification and separation using porous carbon and 2D materials will be also the hot topics of this symposium. The fabrication, characterization, and application of carbon electrochemical devices and setups, the novel carbon sensing platform for single molecular detection, and the mechanical applications of carbon and 2D materials will be included.

Hot topics to be covered:

  • Novel techniques for chemical synthesis of advanced carbon and 2D materials
  • New characterization techniques for advanced carbon and 2D materials
  • Carbocatalysts
  • 2D materials for gas separations
  • Biomedical applications using carbon nanoparticles and 2D materials
  • Advanced carbon and 2D materials for energy storage applications
  • Sensing applications of advanced carbon and 2D materials
  • Advanced carbon and 2D materials for environmental degradation
  • Carbon materials from waste recycling and biomass valorization
  • Chemical devices
