WIndo-Europe Joint Forum on Circular Economy through Urban Mining
Centre for Materials for Electronics Technology (C-MET), Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, Government of India, Hyderabad, India jointly with the European Materials Research Society (EMRS) cordially invite you to participate in the Indo-Europe Joint Forum on “Circular Economy through Urban Mining”. The Forum will take place as part of the 2025 E-MRS Spring Meeting to be held at Strasbourg Convention Centre, France from May 26 to 30, 2025.
The forum will focus on the advances and the growing business market in urban mining towards circular economy and sustainable materials supply chain.
Globally the clean energy technologies have seen a boom with solar PV surging to 85 % and wind turbines growing to 60 % in 2023. In addition, 35% year-on-year increase in the sales of electrical vehicles have also been reported with around 14 million sales in 2023. Accordingly, a huge demand for critical materials needed for the batteries and permanent magnets has been raised. However due to the limited reserves/ores available globally demand versus supply is widening in the critical materials. To mitigate dependency on critical materials, an efficient recycling approach seems to be the only solution to ensure the supply chain for these critical materials. Urban mining can play a pivotal role in achieving circular and climate-neutral economy.
The forum E-MRS Spring meeting will help businesses generate ideas to make them more circular, profitable, and resilient. The gathering in the meeting will connect industries to researchers and/or academician to fill the requirement to make the innovations to reach commercial viabilities.
The technical program will include a series of presentations, panel discussions, and collaborative opportunities with academia and industry representatives.
The program will cover key topics, including:
- Day 1: E-waste management, Regenerative business, Circular Economy and Resource Engineering
The sessions will cover how to turn business activities into social and environmental assets and to implement circular business models. - Day 2: Solid Waste Management, hazardous waste management, bio and medical waste management etc
Specific areas of focus will include:
- Urban Mining, advanced technologies for critical minerals extraction
- Sustainability through recycling
- Circular Economy: Recycling, Reuse, and Resource Efficiency
- Sustainable Processing of materials
- E-Waste management
- Solid Waste Management, Bio-medical waste
This forum will include the E-MRS Global Dialogue on Materials Science & Technologies for Sustainable Development on May 27th.
The E-MRS Global Dialogue on Materials Science & Technologies for Sustainable Development is an exclusive, invitation-only event designed to convene top-level scientists, industrial leaders, and policymakers. This high-caliber gathering aims to address critical challenges and opportunities in sustainable materials through focused discussions on topics such as bio based materials, energy efficiency, e-waste management, and international policy impact. A key emphasis of the event is on networking, with dedicated sessions like the Networking Break and Networking Lunch specifically designed to facilitate meaningful connections and collaborations among these influential stakeholders. By fostering direct interactions between leading experts and decision-makers, the dialogue seeks to drive innovation, accelerate the commercialization of sustainable technologies, and shape effective sustainability policies on a global scale (cf. announcement below).
