When Light Shapes Matter: Lasers in Materials Science and Photonics

From medicine to manufacturing, lasers power modern life. Specifically, material processing with laser is key to unlock new applications in science and technology. This symposium brings together researchers across disciplines to explore breakthroughs in laser-assisted synthesis, surface engineering, diagnostics, and next-generation photonics.

Scope:

Laser materials processing is transforming the way we design, analyze, and functionalize matter at the micro- and nanoscale. This symposium will highlight the latest advances in laser–matter interaction down to the shortest and smallest scales, covering ultrafast phenomena, laser- and plasma-based materials synthesis, surface and bulk structuring and functionalization, 3D processing, additive manufacturing, process analytics, and materials diagnostics, stressing the current advance in laser micro and nanotechnologies.

The program spans both fundamental and applied research, bridging science and technology across materials science, photonics, engineering, physics, chemistry, biology, and life sciences. Topics include laser ablation, surface patterning, refractive index engineering, micro- and nanostructuring, microanalysis, and laser-based synthesis of nanomaterials, with applications ranging from biophotonics and optoelectronics to biosensing and environmental monitoring.

Recent breakthroughs in high-power and ultrashort-pulse lasers, combined with advanced beam-shaping technologies, have opened exciting new possibilities in multiphotonic materials processing. These include nanoscale surface engineering, volumetric modification of functional materials, time-resolved diagnostics, precision laser machining, optically induced transfer, and laser direct writing.

Bringing together leading international experts and emerging young researchers, the symposium will feature invited talks, oral presentations, and poster sessions, providing a vibrant platform for interdisciplinary exchange and new research collaborations.
