WSustainable Functional Materials for Emerging Electronics and Robotics
Sustainable functional materials are transforming emerging electronics and robotics, enabling flexible, high-performance, and responsive devices. This symposium showcases advances in bio-based and biodegradable materials for electronics, robotics, and next-generation smart systems.
Scope:
The development of truly sustainable technologies requires a fundamental rethinking of the materials and design principles that underpin modern electronics and robotics. Emerging bio-derived and biodegradable functional materials are creating new opportunities for flexible, stretchable, transient, and intelligent systems that combine high performance with reduced environmental impact. By moving beyond conventional petrochemical-based platforms, the field is opening new directions for electronics and robotics that are not only technologically advanced, but also inherently more sustainable by design.
This symposium will bring together researchers at the forefront of sustainable functional materials for intelligent electronics and robotics, spanning the full pathway from material synthesis and thin-film design to devices, system integration, and application. It will highlight advances in flexible and soft electronic materials, sustainable conductors and dielectrics, sensors and actuators, transistors, energy devices, and multifunctional materials for intelligent and autonomous systems.
Particular emphasis will be placed on materials that enable new capabilities in soft, flexible, and bioinspired robotics, as well as on strategies for integrating sustainability into high-value technologies without compromising performance. The symposium will also explore applications in healthcare, environmental monitoring, wearable systems, and next-generation human-machine interfaces.
By bridging materials science, chemistry, electronics, robotics, and sustainability, the symposium aims to define the next frontier of high-performance, low-impact technologies. It will highlight both the scientific advances and the translational challenges needed to move sustainable materials from promising laboratory concepts to real devices and systems with societal impact.
Hot topics to be covered by the symposium:
- Plant- and animal-derived substrates for flexible, stretchable, and transient electronics
- Protein-based and peptide-derived materials for semiconducting, optical, and dielectric thin film applications
- Ionic biopolymer conductors for neuromorphic and synaptic devices
- Biodegradable sensors for environmental and biomedical monitoring
- Biopolymer actuators and artificial muscles for soft robotics
- Sustainable encapsulation and green dielectrics
- Lifecycle analysis and eco-design strategies for biopolymer devices
- System integration of sustainable electronic devices for smart applications
